Sigma 50-100mm f / 1.8 DC HSM Lens for Canon EF
Technology that exemplifies the Art series at a zoom
FLD and SLD elements to reduce aberrations
To help minimize axial and transverse chromatic aberration, this lens features an optimal arrangement of the three FLD elements (low dispersion “F”, similar to fluorite), one SLD element (Special Low Dispersion), three SLD elements with a high refractive index, and a high-refractive, high dispersion glass element and element. By including one or more low dispersion elements in each element group, this lens ensures exceptional image quality throughout the entire zoom and any focusing distance.
With a new hypersonic motor design
To achieve excellent image quality and F1.8 brightness, SIGMA has improved its Hypersonic Motor (HSM) by optimizing the layout as well as the shapes of the components. SIGMA has made the HSM 30 percent thinner than before. This in turn has made it possible to combine F1.8 brightness and high image quality to converge on a zoom lens.
Diaphragm unit designed for smooth operation
The diaphragm blades are carbon coated, and the diaphragm unit is made of a new fluorine polycarbonate material. Thanks to these innovations, the operation of the diaphragm is exceptionally smooth, even during continuous shooting, while the polycarbonate is exceptionally durable and wear-resistant.
Designed to reduce stray lights and reflections
From the start of the design process, SIGMA measures flare and shadow to establish an optical design that is resistant to strong light sources. In the prototyping phase, SIGMA uses not only simulations, but also actual photographic experiments to assess flare and shadow under multiple criteria, identify the causes of these issues in relation to a wide range of situations, and take steps to mitigate them. . In addition, SIGMA's Super Multi-Layer Coating helps to further reduce flare and shadow and provide sharp, high-contrast images even in backlit conditions.
User friendly zoom
Tripod mount designed for stable and comfortable operation
The tripod ring is compact, making the operation more stable and comfortable during freehand photography. Electroless nickel plated parts help ensure the quality and durability of 90 degree click stops and smooth switching between horizontal and vertical position. The shape of the shoe also improves ease of handling and transportation when the lens is not attached to a camera.
Internal zoom and focus
Since its launch, the SIGMA 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art has been widely used for making videos. Understanding that the SIGMA 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art and the new SIGMA 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art were often used together, SIGMA has made the style of operation and handling the same for both lenses, including the sense of focus and zoom. Thanks to SIGMA's internal focus and internal zoom technology, adjusting the focus and zoom rings does not change the length of the lens.
