Benro's 82mm Master Series TrueNight Filter is designed to reduce the appearance of light pollution in images or videos including the night sky and illumination from artificial light sources. This effect can be obtained when this filter is used in a film camera system with daylight film installed, or in a digital camera system with its daylight white balance setting selected.
Light pollution occurs in areas of the night sky that are above or near concentrated and intense sources of artificial light, such as cities. These light sources can include exterior and interior lamps for commercial or residential buildings, brightly lit advertisements such as billboards, street lamps, as well as sports and entertainment venues. Together, they can result in a type of light pollution known as sky glow, where individual stars, the Milky Way, and other astronomical features in the night sky darken. Also, clustered artificial lights can become difficult to discern individually. Light pollution from these "messy" sources can become a source of distraction within an image and can resemble overexposed areas of glare.
When used, Benro's 82mm Master Series TrueNight Filter can improve night imaging results by absorbing yellow light from sodium vapor lamps, mercury vapor lamps, or low color rendering index LEDs , common light sources in urban areas. By preventing the dominant wavelengths of light associated with the color of these lamps from being recorded, the visibility of astronomical objects is improved and, where they appear, artificial light sources are more clearly defined with less glare and better contrast.
To prevent ghosting and internal reflections, each of the glass surfaces of the Benro 82mm Master Series TrueNight filter includes multiple layers of anti-reflective coating. These coatings also offer greater protection to the filter substrate and help it stay clean longer than uncoated filters. The nano coating associated with Benro Master series filters provides an additional 13th layer on each side of this filter, resulting in an enhanced pearl effect when in contact with water for increased cleaning efficiency.
Benro's 82mm Master Series TrueNight Filter is made from Schott B270 glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity, and features a brass filter ring for durability and interference prevention.
