One of the most legendary lenses in the Leica M mount line, the Noctilux-M 50mm f / 0.95 ASPH black. is a full-length ultrafast primer characterized by its unique rendering quality, ability to isolate subject, and exceptional low-light performance. Based on a classic double Gauss optical design, the lens employs a pair of aspherical elements, anomalous partial dispersion glass, and high refractive index elements to produce distinctive subtle smoothness when working wide at the same time offering a accurate color and minimal distortion. A floating element system is also used to maintain consistent image quality throughout the focus range, from 3.3 'to infinity. Additionally, the lens features a built-in extendable hood and accepts 60mm threaded filters.
The extremely fast maximum aperture of f / 0.95 offers remarkable control over depth of field for selective focus shooting, and also benefits the handheld working in low light conditions.
The distinctive "slightly smooth" rendering is characteristic of the Noctilux line, and is well suited for portraits and other lifestyle applications.
Referring to a double Gauss-type optical design, the lens is constructed of eight elements in five groups. Five of the elements are made of anomalous partial dispersion glass and three are made of high refractive index glass to produce a different rendering quality while limiting color stripes and chromatic aberrations.
Two large diameter aspherical elements are also used to control spherical aberrations to improve clarity and reduce distortion.
A rear floating element is used to maintain consistent image quality throughout the focus range, even at the minimum focus distance of 3.3 '.
The built-in extendable hood shades and protects the front element to reduce flare and ghosting of the lens. Additionally, the front of the lens is threaded to accept 60mm thread filters.
