The Rode VideoMic NTG offers video content creators, run-and-shoot filmmakers, dubbing artists and podcasters the sound of highly regarded NTG shotguns in a convenient camera-mounted microphone that requires no additional adapters to work with cameras, USB-equipped smartphones, tablets, portable recorders, and computers.

With focused directivity, continuously variable gain, digitally switched tone controls, and an internal USB rechargeable battery, the VideoMic NTG provides transparent sound performance and immensely flexible functionality. Thanks to its aerospace grade aluminum casing, the VideoMic NTG is durable, compact and lightweight, making it equally suitable for home on camera or in a boom.

Auto-sensing 3.5mm TRRS output and included TRRS cable ensure compatibility with cameras, portable recorders, mobile devices, and computers, no adapters required. A peak warning light, -20 dB pad, and selectable -20 dB safety channel help you easily avoid distortion on your recordings. When used as a USB microphone, the 3.5mm jack works as a stereo headphone output for real-time monitoring of your signal.
Technology ported from the NTG5
The VideoMic NTG's body features acoustic perforations instead of the linear grooves traditionally used in shotgun microphones. This ringline tube technology was ported from the Rode NTG5 to provide transparency and natural, colorless sound.
Sound directional pickup
The VideoMic NTG uses a supercardioid polar pattern to focus on the sound in front of it while attenuating the sound from the sides and the back. Its low noise electronics and sensitive condenser element deliver more detailed audio than the microphones typically found in portable cameras and recorders. Since it is even more responsive than the VideoMic Pro + model, it requires less gain to achieve an equivalent signal level.
Wide device compatibility
Simply connect the VideoMic NTG to your camera, portable recorder, or mobile device via the included TRRS cable. VideoMic NTG's auto-sensing 3.5mm TRRS output automatically switches between TRS and TRRS as needed, so you won't need any additional adapter cables. The 3.5mm jack is wired in a dual mono configuration, ensuring that the microphone signal is sent identically to both input channels of your recording device.

If you put it all the way you can notice the noise, but for normal use you don't amplify it as much and you don't notice anything. I use it to do skype, and when I need it it will also serve as a directional mic. Before this I had tried a zoom H2 recorder, and there is no color, this Rode NTG micro is much more sensitive. By connecting it to USB, Windows recognizes it directly and works the first time. It can also be connected via a jack. You have to pay attention because depending on where you connect it you may need a 4 to 3 pole adapter or a minijack. The downside is that it is a bit expensive. And I miss a leather case or at least a nice box or some fabric. But it does not carry any of that, it only comes in the collapsible cardboard box in which things fit badly. It is strange because other cheaper models of the same brand, even cheaper, do include the cover.
