Das 18-300 mm F3,5-6,3 deckt einen weiten Zoombereich von ca. 27 mm bis 450 mm (vollformatäquivalente Brennweite) ab. Es ist das weltweit erste spiegellose APS-C-Zoomobjektiv mit einem 16,6-fachen Zoomverhältnis und bietet alle Vorteile eines vielseitigen Zoomobjektivs, das dem Benutzer zahlreiche fotografische Möglichkeiten bietet. Sein AF-Antriebssystem verwendet den VXD-Linearmotor-Fokussierungsmechanismus (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) von TAMRON für eine hervorragende Geräuschreduzierung und agile Leistung; Das Objektiv enthält spezielle Elemente, um eine hohe Auflösungsleistung und eine hohe Bildqualität zu liefern, die es zu den besten Offroad-Zoomobjektiven zählt.

Mit einer MOD (Minimum Focus Distance) von 0,15m am breitesten Ende und einem maximalen Vergrößerungsverhältnis von 1:2 funktioniert dieses Objektiv erstaunlich gut bei Nahaufnahmen. Es ist mit dem patentierten VC-Mechanismus (Vibration Compensation) von TAMRON ausgestattet, der auch bei extremen Brennweiten stabile Aufnahmen ermöglicht. Der neue Zoom wird durch seine feuchtigkeitsbeständige Konstruktion und eine Fluorbeschichtung geschützt, die für Außenaufnahmen bei rauen Wetterbedingungen entwickelt wurde. Seine 67-mm-Filtergröße ist identisch mit dem Standard-Zoomobjektiv 17-70 mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD von TAMRON (Modell B061) für spiegellose Kameras mit E APS-C-Mount von Sony sowie fast allen TAMRON-Objektiven in der spiegellosen Kamera Serie, perfekt aufeinander abgestimmte APS-C-Kameras.
