This filter avoids the (invisible) UV component of the sky, which can cause blurred images and in some color films, may react with a blue emission. UV filters are ideal for photography at high altitudes (in mountains), by the sea and in regions with very clean air. The images gain brightness and avoid annoying blue ones. Because the glass is colorless, the color version is not altered, thus removing unwanted blues and increasing exposure is not mandatory. This makes UV a UV a must.
