20.2 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor

A full frame 20.2 megapixel CMOS sensor with high latitude, developed and manufactured by Canon, reduces noise at both high and low ISO speeds. This fabulous sensor features seamless microlenses to ensure high image quality in any capture situation. seamless lenses mean that no light is lost between each pixel, as the light entering the sensor is channeled directly to the pixels below.

High ISO sensitivity

With a native ISO sensitivity of 51,200, the EOS-1D X MARK II can be expanded even further to 409,600 ISO to shoot in very dark places, and the flexibility doesn't stop there, even in ISO Auto mode shutter speeds of up to 1/8,000 s can be achieved, as well as with exposure compensation in manual mode.

360,000 pixel RGB+IR measurement sensor

The camera incorporates a 360,000 effective pixel RGB+IR measurement sensor (736 x 496 resolution close to WVGA), evaluative measurement and flash measurement based on the information detected by the sensor, including IR pixels that detect infrared (IR) light that helps the EOS Scene Detection System analyze scenes and improve AF accuracy, IR pixels, in combination with RGB pixels, are also used to detect the brightness, color, and faces of the scene, in addition to detecting the brightness, color, and faces of the scene.

EOS iTR System

The EOS iTR Intelligent Tracking and Recognition system has the face detection and color tracking capability of the 360,000 pixel RGB+IR sensor. In the EOS-1D X Mark II, the AF EOS iTR includes the enhanced algorithms of the EOS 7D Mark II that improve overall subject tracking performance.

In addition to the face priority mode, a subject tracking mode has been added for those times when the face is not always visible and when the main subject is not a person.

AI Servo AF III+

Canon's AI Servo AF III+ incorporates an AF algorithm that, along with the EOS iTR Intelligent Tracking and Recognition system, improves tracking sensitivity in scenes where motive motion can occur suddenly, and offers precise and sharp focus even in situations where focusing is complicated.

EV-3 autofocus

The AF system allows you to keep the subject in focus easily, even in difficult lighting conditions. The low intensity AF limit has been upgraded to EV-33, making it easier to shoot in scenes where autofocus was impossible or too slow and imprecise, such as in dark places.

3EV-3 at a central AF point focusing at f/2.8, 23 °C/73 °F and ISO 100

14 fps with full AF/AE tracking, 16 fps with Live View mode

Professional photographers never get a second chance, so their priority is to increase the possibilities of photographing decisive moments, such as celebrating a goal or crossing the finish line, and capture them with precision and exceptional sharpness. Canon's engineers are aware of this and have achieved a mirror movement speed of 14 fps1 with full AF/AE tracking.

Capturing in Live View mode raises the performance bar even further by allowing continuous capture at 16 fps1 when the focus and exposure are set on the first shot. This frame rate exceeds the EOS-1D X's maximum previous mirror lock speed, with the added advantage that it is still possible to view the scene in Live View mode while capturing it.

Dual Processors "DIGIC 6+"

For the 20.2 megapixel CMOS sensor to read the high-speed signal, the EOS-1D X Mark II uses a front processing circuit along with the two "DIGIC 6+" processors to process the high-speed signal. The incredible power of these processors allows for greater latitude, improves noise reduction in both low and high ISO ranges, reproduces images with the natural skin tone for which Canon is known, and applies various lens corrections in real time when shooting at approximately 16 fps in Live View mode.

CFast Card 2.0™

The EOS-1D X Mark II is the first EOS camera to incorporate a CFast 2.0 card slot™ in addition to the CompactFlash card slot. CFast 2.0™ is similar in size to CompactFlash but incorporates split contacts making the card more solid and less prone to problems caused by folded sideburns. CFast 2.0™ cards today have a write speed of up to 440 MB/s, three times faster than the fastest CompactFlash (150 MB/s). These write speeds are three times faster than the fastest CompactFlash (150 MB/s). These speeds of writing (150 MB/s). CFast 2.0™ is similar in size to CompactFlash but incorporates split contacts so the card is more solid and less prone to problems caused by folded sideburns.

LCD screen with high resolution touch panel

High quality photographs taken with the EOS-1D X Mark II can be viewed on a high quality LCD monitor at the same time they are taken. To make this possible, the EOS-1D X Mark II includes a Clear View II LCD screen with a 3:2 format and a 3.2 inch monitor size with no variations. The pixel density of the screen has been increased by approximately 1.25 times and the number of dots has increased to 1.62 million compared to the EOS-1D X.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF

Dual Pixel CMOS AF is a sensor-based phase detection autofocus (AF) technology designed to provide uniform, high-performance focus tracking in videos and fast acquisition of autofocus when taking pictures in Live View mode. This technology, developed exclusively by Canon, is perfect for creating pull-focus effects and maintaining a sharp focus while the subject is directed towards the user while maintaining the blurred background, a distinctive feature of EOS Movie videos.

Incredible EOS 4K videos at 60p

The EOS-1D X Mark II is a milestone in digital SLR video from Canon's tradition, offering documentary producers and filmmakers the option of recording their stories with an impressive 4K resolution at various recording speeds. 4K videos are recorded internally in DCI 4K standard at 4096 x 2160 (17:9 format) in native sensor resolution for ultimate sharpness and quality.

To give flexibility to the 4K workflow it has a wide variety of recording speeds: 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 50 or 59.94 fps. Although focusing on 4K is said to be difficult, with the EOS-1D X Mark II it is easy and accurate thanks to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF. The use of CFast 2.0™ cards is recommended for internal recording, as the EOS-1D X Mark II allows recording up to 29 min. 59 s of continuous 4K video at any recording speed.
