Nikon Z 7II Mirrorless Digital Camera
Improved processing, greater versatility, yet familiar in design, the Nikon Z 7II takes everything that was great about the original and further increases its capabilities. With a 45.7MP high-resolution FX-format BSI CMOS sensor and dual EXPEED 6 image processors, the Z 7II is clearly aimed at the detail-obsessed image maker.
The sensor design bypasses the optical low-pass filter for greater detail-recording ability, and the sensor supports a native sensitivity range of up to ISO 64 for rich, lush shooting. Updated processing also produces faster speeds, including an accelerated 10fps continuous shooting speed and a deeper buffer for working with moving subjects. UHD 4K 60p video is also supported, with the option to record externally in 10-bit using N-Log or HLG (HDR) modes. The sensor also incorporates a 493-point phase-detection AF system, which now supports eye-detection AF in wide-area AF modes and during movie recording, and allows focusing in low light conditions down to -4.5 EV. Additionally, 5-axis body shake reduction helps reduce the appearance of camera shake with any lens mounted.
Balancing the images, the Z 7II retains its overall physical design, however it has been updated with a new dual memory card slot interface to hold a Type B CFexpress card and a UHS-II SD card for more flexible storage. Both the 3.6 million-dot high-resolution OLED EVF and the rear 3.2 "2.1 million-dot tilting LCD touchscreen provide versatility in image composition and playback, and the SnapBridge wireless connectivity can be used for remote control of the camera, sharing images with a mobile device, and even firmware updates over the air.
Second generation Z
Building on its initial efforts, Nikon has revised the Z 7 platform to offer more speed, faster processing, and greater versatility without sacrificing the qualities beloved of the original camera.
Dual EXPEED 6 image processors offer higher buffer performance, a 10fps faster continuous shooting speed, and dramatically reduced blackout times in the viewfinder.
Updated autofocus now includes both human and animal Eye and Face Detection in wide-area AF mode for photo and video recording.
It is now possible to shoot with long exposure time of up to 900 seconds (15 minutes) without the need for an external remote control.
Dual memory card slots offer more flexible file storage capabilities; one CFexpress Type B slot and one SD UHS-II slot allow overflow, segregated, and repetitive savings options.
The USB Type-C port allows in-camera charging or continuous power for on-the-go charging or long shooting times.
The direction of rotation of the focus ring on the lenses can be changed to suit one's familiarity.
Support for HDR (HLG) mode when recording externally provides instant HDR-compliant video files for immediate playback. N-Log is also available for better control during post-production and sorting.
Eligible for an optional ProRes RAW upgrade, which enables the camera to output ProRes RAW footage to a compatible Atomos external recorder. This update provides greater color grading flexibility with the ProRes codec along with the ability to output uncompressed 12-bit raw footage over HDMI. This update will be available in early 2021.
SnapBridge wireless connectivity can be used to update camera firmware, rather than relying on a memory card-based update system.
Updated creative shooting modes include multiple exposure, 20 different picture control settings, and in-camera time-lapse recording. There is also a focus shift mode for recording up to 300 sequential frames with the focus position shifted between exposures for focus stacking applications.
Compatible with the optional MB-N11 Power Battery for longer battery life and better handling.
